Experience Description

If you are looking for things to do while visiting Grass Valley or Nevada City, then joining us on this authentic guided farm experience is the perfect fit. We will begin with milking the goats. You will meet the milking does in the parlor and have an opportunity to try hand-milking a dairy goat. Your host will explain the procedures and the processes that contribute to healthy goats and healthy milk. We will then move on to feeding the goats. From February through June, this includes bottle feeding the kids as well as feeding the adults and moving them to their pastures.

Your host will give you a hands-on tour of a small working dairy goat farm, and answer all your questions. You will have ample time to hang out with the goats, cuddle the littlest kids, romp in the pastures with the older kids and tour a small goat-milk lotion and soap production facility.

Experience Guide

Nightingale Farms breeds award-winning Oberhasli dairy goats and creates wonderful soaps and lotions with the milk. The goats are beautiful, curious and enjoy interacting with visitors.

Shannon Friedberg and Steve Nightingale started their small family farm in the Sierra Foothills in 2006. They raise quality Oberhasli dairy goats for milk and show. They often have goats for sale for family milkers, brushers, and pets as well as competitive show animals. In 2018, their Oberhasli goat Fascina won California State Fair Golden Grand Champion.
All of the farm animals are treated with respect and care. They have access to the finest natural diet free from hormones and unnecessary medications. They are vaccinated against prevalent diseases and receive veterinary care when appropriate.
