Experience Description

Starting in Spring 2019, you can join us for a unique trip back to the Gold Rush in the historic towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City.

We’ll start in downtown Nevada City in front of the Assay Office where $27 million in gold pass through its doors without ever once being robbed. Then, we’ll board the Yuba Bus for our driving tour of important moments in California’s Gold Rush history – exploring the impacts to native Nisenan people and Chinese miners to important technological advances like the Pelton Wheel and water monitors. Other sites along this route include the Nevada Theatre, the National Hotel, and Deer Creek.

From Nevada City, we’ll head to Grass Valley for an exclusive hour and a half docent-led tour of the Empire Mine State Historic Park, the site of one of the oldest, largest, deepest, longest and richest gold mines in California. After, we’ll cruise into downtown Grass Valley where we’ll stop at a local eatery that specializes in traditional Cornish pasties, a portable pot pie beloved by the miners. Our tour continues as we check out the street that was once “paved with gold,” drive by the haunted Holbrooke Hotel an establishment once frequented by Mark Twain, visit a historic cemetery and the first gold discovery site in the region. We’ll end our tour in Nevada City in front of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce where you can find information about shops, art galleries, entertainment and more.

Experience Includes: Driving Tour, Docent-Led Walking Tour at Historic State Park, Photo Opportunities, Slideshow and History, Lunch, and a few outlandish surprises
